[bookshare-discuss] Re: Inexpensive Way To Braille DocumentsRE:

Hi Pat,

I suppose I could spend a half hour with wintrans. When would you want this? Oh, hmmm, Tech Talk is on Monday nights, right? Eeooh, I have Oratorio on Monday nights. Now, I suppose I could miss one rehearsal, but it would have to be during April or the first part of May, as I've got a concert the end of the month. Summer would be good, better in fact.

Sorry, wish I could be more positive, but my Monday nights have been booked for the past thirty years.

Hi Ann,

Would this be a subject that you would want to show and tell on an upcoming
Tek Talk event? We do like to give our audience cheaper ways of doing
things. Goodness knows, Duxbury is wonderful but very expensive as well.

Let me know what you think.

Pat

Hi all,

Many may not know that there are Braille conversion tools that are free.
You don't have to have Duxbury, though this is preferable.
Wintrans works just fine. It may not give super accurate copy, there may be
some glitches, but if you convert an HTML file to txt and run it through
Wintrans, the braille is truly acceptable for reading. Yes, it's a two step
process, but it does work.

Of course, it would be much easier and much better if Publisher Quality
files were brailled by Bookshare. However, in the meantime, if anyone wants
to know how to use Wintrans, just shout.
