Evan, thanks for letting us know that, I too am sad, as you said, he was a
great writer and I believe helped other authors write the way they have.

Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Arthur C. Clarke Has Died

This is a sad day for Science Fiction fans, and anyone interested in science
or the future. I just heard on the BBC that Arthur C. Clarke has died at age
ninety. Apparently, according to another news source, he died in a Sri Lanka
hospital after a brief illness.

Ever since I was a boy, Clarke has been one of my favorite authors; and some
of my dearest reading memories were of reading his great books for the first
time, both fiction and nonfiction. He has also had a great influence on the way
I, and many others, think about the future of humanity. A man of tremendous
intelligence and imagination, along with a great sense of humor.

I am glad to say that he is well represented in the Bookshare collection, and
just the other day one of his most renowned works, Rendezvous with Rama was
added to the collection - scanned by Carrie.

This will be a day of mourning for me and I am sure many others around the
world. But it will be a day of celebration for me as well. Few have contributed
as much to the literature of imagination or have done as much to convey the
wonders of science to the general public. A life well lived and worth
celebrating!

  Evan
