You may send an amail to support@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and ask John what to do but the last time your parents would have to give their consent for you to havee access to adult books. And sometimes the tools on bookshare will classify a book as adult although it can be overridden. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Natalia Sulca" <youngbeautyqueen@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Again! First Off. I think that it is a parent’s job to monitor what a child readsand to determine the maturity level of their child. They can decide weather the child can deal with adult content or not. Second. I am personally under 18, and have not yet found myself blocked from anything, but if I do I know I will be the first one really frustrated smile, seeing as most of the booksI read are indeed adult content. I am all over the place when it comes to books. My parents are well aware of what kind of books I read. Sometimes they ask me for recommendations too! I have one question though. Is there any way we who are under 18 can get adult content unblocked? Is there something my parents will have to sign and send in? To: bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx I have started to read several books that should have been adult content because of sex that was very descriptive. Another book that I validated I made a comment that there was some sexual content (making out, petting, etc) but not extreme and it was labeled adult content. I think there needs to be a set guideline on what constitutes adult content that validators stick to. Like descriptive sex scenes, tons of cussing, or graphic violence. Then in the comments section the validator says why it was labeled as adult content. -Christamae --- Darrell Shandrow wrote:Hello Kelby, Though anything can be improved, I believe the "adult" label definitely needs to remain in place. Libraries take reasonable actions to protect children from content that is clearly inappropriate to their viewing in accordance with community standards, and Bookshare should certainly be no different in that regard with respect to children with print disabilities. :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "kelby carlson" To: Sent: Friday, March 21, 2008 5:14 AM Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Adult Content Issue ... Again! Okay, so it's happened again and once more left me extremely frustrated. A book that was just submitted "Witch Hunt: History of a Persecution" has been categorized as having "adult content". The witch hunts are a part of history that interest me, and I've been looking for some good books on them. But no-enI can't have this one no matter how good it might ,be because someone decided to tag it with the lable "adult content". Doesn't say what kind of adult content; whether its explicitsex, hate speegh graphic violence, or what have you. I would like to be able to determine for myself if a book contains adult content. But I can't unless I read it. Really, I honestly think this adult content label just needs to be dropped. It's almost kept me from reading a couple of really good books that got mislabeled. Okay, rant is done. Kelby Doomed Dragon It is quite easy for me to think of a God of love mainly because I grew up in a family where love was central and where lovely relationships were ever present. It is quite easy for me to think of the universe as basically friendly mainly because of my uplifting hereditary and environmental circumstances. It is quite easy for me to lean more toward optimism than pessimism about human nature mainly because of my childhood experiences. It is impossible to get at the roots of one's religious attitudes without taking in account the psychological and historical factors that play upon the individual. --Martin Luther King, Jr. If the people who started wars didn't make them sacred, who would be foolish enough to fight? --Rhett Butler --- Get FREE High Speed Internet from USFamily.Net! -- http://www.usfamily.net/mkt-freepromo.html --- To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank Email to bookshare-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the Subject line.
