It is not necessary to carry the Bookport around, but of course, the only thing that you can adjust on the headphones is the volume. If you are interrupted while listening the Bookport plays on. I have listened with the Bookport separated from me by two rooms with two intervening walls and both doors closed with no change in volume or clearness. This was at well over 30 feet. This may be unusual but I'm sure that about 30 feet could be expected at all times.

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but, when you use the bluetooth headphones, do you still carry the book port around with yo while listening to it through them? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Benoit" <reb503@xxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, November 27, 2006 10:15 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: bluetooth headphonesHi Tom, The Bluetooth headset that I am using (Plantronics 590A) is essentiallythe same as a regular headset except that it is not quite as light and trim as one of the lightweight sets. Of necessity it must contain a rechargeablebattery, reciever. and controls for volume, an on/off switch, and buttonsfor swittcing betweening devices. It also has a microphone for use with a cell phone which means it has a transmitter. .In spite of this they are quite light and comfortable. They come with an A Ccharger for the headset and adapter. The Logitech phones that Walt Smith mentioned are a a great buy even with the minorproblem although you might want to consider that the behind the head design might make them unsuitable for use in bed or in a recliner,They do work well with the Bookport. The adapter plugs into the headphone jack and will just fit into the zippered compartment of the Bookport leather case. If you don't have the case it will just dangle.Richard----- Original Message ----- From: "tom hawkins" <tjhawk1@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, November 26, 2006 5:28 PM Subject: [bookport] Re: bluetooth headphonesHi, Are the Bluetooth head-phones similar to a regular head set? Are they comfortable? How are they powered? I'd really like the idea of no wire to tangle in everything! They were "paired" at the factory. When I set up the headset with my laptop I had to go through the pairing process so they would recieve the sigmal from the laptop without the adapter. This "pairing" is to prevent others from connecting with your devices and to prevent you from recieving signals from every Bluetooth device you happen to be near. The Plantronics headset has a pairing mode to allow it to be paired with other Bluetooth devices. The adapter also has this mode which I assume will allow it to pair with another headset.I have never seen the Plantronics adapter sold separately but they may very well be available. The adapter would probably work with your headset provided that they both conform to the same standare. There is usually a statement in the specifications to that effect. I would investigate this pairing process very thoroughly before making a purchase.Sorry I couldn't be of more help. The occassion for doing so was that I bought a neww laptop thay had the option of a built in Bluetooth transmitter as do most new laptops. There is also the fact that cellphones are available with theoption as well as many other devices. This makes it possible to useseveral devices with the same headset without an adapter. The adapter is for use with devices that are not already equipped with a transmitter. As for advantages of Bluetooth over other wireless headphones i can't say conclusively which is best except to say that if it is an infrared device, it will only work in "line of sight". If the device is RF then it is probably subject to more interferrence than Bluetooth and probably has less range. Bluetooth has a range of 33 feet and is quite clear within thatrange. To sum it up: Bluetooth is a newer technology and is or will be compatible with more devices and probably works a little better, otherwise RF wirelessmight be adequate. I have never used either type mentioned above so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tom. This model comes with the adapter for use with non Bluetooth devices. They work very well with the Bookport and they are especially convenient with the NLS tape machine. You can find all the details at Amazon.
