I think of this as being similar to locking your doors when you leave home. You don't *have to do it. But you stand a better chance of thwarting a berglary if you do.

Just a confirmation here, I checked, and there is indeed a bc_sig.bb file that gets created when the Book Port formats a CF card. I stand corrected.
