[bookport] When I plug in book port

When I plug in the USB cable to the bookport now it shows me the drive on
the bookport but it is not opening the transfer software, this started after
I plugged it in last week and was told there was an upgrade--I have not
plugged into the computer for a while.  Any suggestions.  My thought is to
reinstall software and try again, but.  

Second question, what keys to I press to save the info before I change
batteries, last time I forgot and had to reset the clock and date again and
what a pain that is.
