Yes I am afraid it does have something of a scratchy sound. It's
predecessor, the Road Runner, also had this at low volume but it
could be overcome at higher ones. I thought it would bother me
more than it does.

Is the sound quality of the BP supposed to have a fuzzy kind of
staticky
background?  I live in Louisville and will be seeing someone who
works at
APH this weekend who will take a look at it for me, but I just
wondered if
any of you have this problem?
