I agree with you that we need to be advocates, but when we are processing 250 jobs for alternative text per semester, well frankly, I just don't have the time to deal with the false promises of the publishers. My students don't have the time to wait. With a high speed scanner we are able to scan a 500 page text book into an electronic format and burn it to CD or copy it to a student's BookPort, all in about 2.5 to 3 hours. When I presented my original question to the list, I was hoping to come up with another way of delivering textbooks to my students. I truly appreciate all of the input I've gotten from members of this list. Ok, I'll shut up as I am getting us off topic. In my case, after initially being told that it couldn't be done, I insisted on speaking to a person that could actually make a a decision, and after esplaining the problem, was e-mailed a link to an unlocked pdf file, Unfortunately, the link didn't work and it was necessary to notify them of this by e-mail, The reply said that in the future that all the e-book download files would be able to be saved as a text file. I have since purchased two additional books from this site. I had the first book within 24 hours. Not every case will be as easy, of coourse. The site is: www.thebereancall.org If we don't insixt that these materials be made available in a format that is usuable by the devices of our choice then they will continue to be inaccessable to us in the future. Most will probably be accommodating, it's just a matter of making a convincing case. Richard There is a way which seemeth rright unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs(14:12) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
