Hi Steve,
In Texas, N L S is running a free pilot program with Unabridged / Overdrive and is funded by them for their test program patrons. Members who volunteer to test the site must be registered with Texas N L S to get a password, then provide occasional feedback on site accessibility, selection, quality of recorded books, etc.
I assume once the pilot program is complete it will be open to all Texas NLS patrons. If this is also the case in other states. It may soon be available to all N L S patrons nationwide.
You may visit the Unabridged / Overdrive website at
http://unabridged.lib.overdrive.com and see what is available
but you will be unable to download books unless your state is affiliated with
Unabridged / Overdrive. A review of affiliated agencies can be found at the
Unabridged Libraries Tab. Please check with your state N L S office for further
information.
Regards,
Don...

Not sure where you got the idea that total recorder wasn't accessible, but it certainly is.
