I have never formatted a card with Bookport before using it, either. Actually, when I used the Transfer tool to send a file to the Bookport with a new compact flash card, I found that the transfer tool had put other files, such as the Bookport manual on the card besides the book that I was transferring.

BTW: thanks to whomever told us about the sale on the 2GB compact flash card on Zip Zoom Fly. I immediately purchased it because it was a really good deal. You can't beat $121 with a $20 rebate and freeshipping

Hi,

Interesting, I have used my cards out of the box and never formatted, and as
of yet, I have never had a problem.

Well, at the very least, it can't hurt to take five seconds at the beginning
to format your CF card, I should think.

True, in the case of digital cameras, some of the manufacturers want

they use SD cards and CF as far as I know.

When we bought our digital camera, the manual suggested we format the
memory before taking pictures.

Offhand, I'm guessing that it's like the situation used to be, back
in the dark ages, with floppies: some wil come preformatted, others
will not, but in all cases you're just beter off doing it yourself
anyway.
That's my guess.
