Robert, if type 2 is no longer available, and we're cautioned not to get type 1, does that mean that there are no longer cards available for this unit? Or are there other types available that would be compatible, besides the type 2?

Tyoe II is no longer available, so when you buy a CF card you cna be sure its Type I.
