I think part of the reason the bp doesn't have an on/off switch is that if you turned the entire unit off, it would reset itself, losing all the data [clock, prefs, etc] but what would actually be useful is it it were wired up so the switch turned off the connection from the keypad to the book port. That way you could actually listen to books, music, etc and still completely lock out the keypad, as well as lock it out and not lose any calendar settings.
