I don't have any problem with the life of batteries in the BookCourier when
playing files, it's just I was a bit concerned about the drain on them when
transferring files to the machine, especially as MP3 files can be rather
large. I think a card reader is the solution I'll opt for.

I primarilly use my Courier for MP3s.
I use any USB to CF card reader or even one of them multi media card
readers will do the same.
You still have some navigation functionality, I think it is only 5%
increments.
So if the file is large, then you can jump several minutes through the
file.
I also use NMH batteries and get good life out of them.
