Tom:

Greetings from a not-so-cold Texas. I was in Ireland about 25 years ago in April, and I thought it was cold enough then. Not sure I'd want to know what it was like in January.

Do you mean that it actually took you eight minutes to put the book onto the Book Courier? Or did it take you that long to remove it from the Book Courier? And do you know what size card you are using? It sounds like a pretty big book. I think that those cds hold up to 70 minutes of audio, so your book may have been somewhere between 13 and 15 hours long. Math isn't my strong suit, but that's an almost educated guess.

I would expect that putting the files in MP3 format took even longer. By the way, converting the files to MP3 is called ripping. Who knows why.

Anyway, the Book Courier Transfer Tool is not the fastest program out there. I love my Book Courier, but no, it isn't all that fast, so I'm not surprised if it took you that long to put a book on it. Once you finally have the book, though, the interface is so easy for a blind person to use. I usually try to find something else to work on while the books are transferring. Email is a good choice. You can also transfer several files at one time, which gives you time to go out of the room for a little while and do something else. But you don't want to leave the Book Courier running unattended too long because it goes through batteries quickly when connected to your PC.

Hope this helps. If not, welcome to the list anyway.

Subject: [bookcourier] removing a book

hi all
I am new to this book courier scene and today for the first time have
removed a full book of 14 c.d.s from the machine that was put on by my son
on my behalf. It took 8 minutes to remove the book. Is it always that
slow. The book was copied first from c.d to mp3 format before been
transferred to the b.c. by the b.c. transfer tool
I will be asking for further help so here's hoping you don't mind an amateur
computer user asking questions he himself is not even sure he is
understanding when he asks
Cheers from a cold Ireland
tom
