_Lost and Found_
by Jacqueline Sheehan

Rocky's veterinarian husband died suddenly and unexpectedly from a massive heart
attack, and Rocky could not save him using CPR.  Unable to concentrate
sufficiently to deal with her patients as a psychologist at a state university,
Rocky takes a year's leave of absence to return to Peak Island off the coast of
Maine where she and her husband had spent a memorable vacation years ago.  There
she accepts the post of Animal Control Warden for the island, and moves into a
recently vacated vacation cottage.  Abandoned cats and dogs and an occasional
visit by local wildlife are far easier to deal with at the moment than
anxiety-ridden college students!

But then she finds herself facing a beautiful black labrador retriever who was
shot with a hand-crafted arrow from a longbow, and her world changes, not only
for her but for her neighbors as well.  Whose dog was he, and how on earth did
he manage to be impaled by an arrow, of all things?  And why is one man intent
on getting his hands on the dog?

An interesting interaction between humans and animals in which the animals aid
in emotional recovery.  Not my favorite book I've read in this genre, but a
fairly good read.  Some problems with the editing in the first quarter of the
book, but better after that.

I got my copy at Goodwill on sale for a buck; it is available via Audible in
audio format.
