We urgently need your help to keep Oregon from selling the 83,000 acre Elliott
State Forest to a private timber company. Several years ago conservation groups
sued the State of Oregon to stop the wide scale destruction on the Elliott. The
State agreed to stop, then turned around and put the forest up for sale. The
State Land Board will decide on December 13th whether to accept a proposal by a
timber company to privatize the Elliott State Forest. Oregon's State Land
Board, comprised of Governor Brown, Secretary of State Atkins, and Treasurer
Wheeler, has the power to reject this bid. If they don't, it will almost
certainly mean turning this cherished and stately coastal rainforest into a
giant clear cut.
- Attend a rally at the upcoming State Land Board meeting on December 13 and
urge our state leaders to go back to the drawing board and find a solution for
the Elliott that keeps it permanently in public ownership and protects its
natural resources. You can also share this event on Facebook!
When: December 13, 2016 at 9 a.m.
Where: Keizer Community Center, Keizer, OR
(Find a carpool near you - details here)
- Call the State Land Board
Gov. Kate Brown - (503) 378-4582
Ted Wheeler - (503) 378-4329
Jeanne Atkins - (503) 986-1523
- Send a note to Gov. Brown asking her and the Land Board to find a
long-term solution that keeps the Elliott public and protects critical fish &
wildlife habitat, clean water, and public access.
We need to act now to ensure that the Elliott State Forest remains in public
ownership for all to enjoy. Once these lands are lost, we will never get them
back. Thank you for all you do for Oregon's forests!Chris Smith
