[blindza] Pub2pub fundraising walk for GDSA

Yesterday we went and took part in the local pub2pub fundraising walk
organised by something like the community/bikers this side, and it basically
involved starting off at the one spot, then walking off to the next one in a
group of apparently around50-100 people, including me and I would guess
around 4 or 5 other actual guide dog owners, including my Inzi's foster
parent/puppy walker, with one of his pet dogs - and some other sighted
people also just brought their dogs along for the walk.

Anyway, at each venue, there'd also be a sort of challenge where they'd make
the sighted guys wear a blindfold and try things like throwing darts,
pouring a drink, playing a shot on a pool table, and even try sort of
bowling with a blind cricket ball, since one of the guys who came along with
the fund raising guy from GDSA, Pieter van Niekerk, is actually apparently our national blind
wicket keeper.

Anyway, was nice enough, and apparently the total route was around
11kilometres, so finally near the end, it seemed Inzi was finally slowing
down a bit, but I did also ride in a car for the one part of the route
between 2 of the 5 total pubs since me and I think the cricket playing guy, Ernst, had been
talking and it seemed everyone else was on the way, so I just went in the
car that he rode in for that part since he had to go and set up the cricket
practice thing at the next venue.

At the very end, they had food etc. as well, and the guys also auctioned off
some items like wine, vouchers, the one blind cricket ball etc. etc. and
think all of this money would also be given to guide dogs SA.

Fact is also that awareness was part of it, since this is most likely the
very first time some of these people have actually seen a guide dog etc. up
close, and seen sort of how they operate, even though I'm sort of known
about in the local community...LOL!

Anyway, am a bit stiff this morning, and found that do have a small sore
spot on my left palm from holding the harness the whole way, but while Inzi
slepts soundly through the night for a change, he seems fine this morning as
well, and the organisers did make sure they had backup vehicles etc. all
along the way in case, and there was water at every stop as well.

Stay well
