Thanks for the report. It seems that someone else is having trouble with the
super playlist feature. I don't understand why it is hanging on this one
area, but I will find out. The find invalid tracks just takes you to the
first one and then stops to let you decide. That's as far as that script
goes, but I suppose I could make it do something else as well.
The delete dead tracks means you are just deleting those with invalid
locations instead of revealing them to you. The add artist, album or genre
to a playlist needs you to be on a single track in the music library and
that's how you add those. I have a bad bug messing with me in the super
playlist creator and I have narrowed it down. I'll be able to fix that
hopefully today. I'll see why it could be locking up in this while loop.
Well, it is two wil loops inside a while loop.
In any event, I'll try to improve some things for more details.

Subject: [blindtunesbeta] helper scripts could use a bit of guidance
Good Morning John. This new helper script feature is darned cool. I'm
feeling a bit under educated though on what precisely the options do and
what I'll need to do (if anything) to complete a particular helper script
process. It would be useful to have a description of what each script does
and what to expect when it is activated. For example:
Find invalid locations: it appears to scan the open music list and take me
to the first invalid location it finds. Not sure if it is doing anything
more? At that point I can delete or check the location to correct it as
usual. Is this intended to do something like list the invalid locations or
take steps to fix? If not, it would be helpful if there was a quick way,
like a key combo, to jump from invalid location to invalid location from a
list the script pulls up. Anyway, would be helpful to at least understand a
bit more of what the script does.
Remove dead tracks: I assume this is simply collecting and deleting "dead"
tracks. Not clear on what dead tracks are however, does this include all
invalid locations, duplicates, etc.? again, would be useful to have a bit
more info on what the helper script does.
Also, if this isn't addressing duplicate tracks, does something in the
helpers give the option of pulling up a list of all the duplicate tracks?
That would be an extremely helpful feature.
Find unchecked items: not entirely sure what this script does? When
activated in my main library of music it took me down to a song and gave me
an option to "skip", not sure what I was to skip or what the check or
uncheck status meant in this context. When I tried it again a while later
the script simply hung up iTunes and I had to shut JAWS down and restart it
and I had to force iTunes to close and restart. Definitely could use some
further info.
Create super playlist: I then gave this a try. I got the option for simple
or other playlist type, selected simple, created a name for the list and hit
enter. I think it may have asked me to wait but then JAWS went dead. I
waited for perhaps 10 minutes and then forced JAWS to close using
insert-WinKey-F4 (had no voice at that point) and restarted JAWS. iTunes
seemed to be locked up as well so I forced it closed and restarted. It
simply was not clear what I needed to do to use the super playlist feature.
Do I need to select items for the playlist before I activate the super
playlist or is the script supposed to take me into a selection process after
I created the playlist name. just no way to tell with the info available.
BTW, after restarting jaws and iTunes, the new playlist had been created and
was empty. More info?
I haven't yet tried the other helper scripts for artist, genre, album, or
the script for podcasts.
If I'm missing something important here I'd sure appreciate some additional
guidance. It'd be helpful to have more explanation in the help documentation
as well.
In any event, your work on this is brilliant! Keep it up. Folks like you set
the bar for moving accessibility into the mainstream. Thanks.
