Subject: [Blind] Tatrapoint mechanical braille typewriting machines
Hello all
“Blind SA has been concerned at the high cost and the unaffordability of
braille writing machines available in South Africa for many years. Numerous
advocacy initiatives were undertaken to reduce the pricing structure of
braille writing machines.
Blind SA was introduced to the Tatrapoint recently. We have since imported one
machine into the country and undertook trials with blind people in Gauteng,
Eastern Cape and Western Cape. The results revealed that the Tatrapoint was
suitable and a reasonably affordable writing machine. Blind SA is currently
finalising a business plan to import and distribute the Tatrapoint in South
Africa. We are fairly confident that the Tatrapointwill be a more cost
effective machine for blind and partially sighted people in the country.
Blind SA is currently keeping a database of individuals and institutions that
have indicated an interest in the “Tatrapoint.
An announcement will be made shortly once the technical and logistical
arrangements have been confirmed.
Individuals and institutions wanting more information may forward their details
to Christo de Klerk on email Christo de Klerk cjdk@xxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:cjdk@xxxxxxxxxx> . The Blind SA website www.blindsa.org.za
<http://www.blindsa.org.za> will also carry information on the Tatrapoint.”
