Max,
Okay, i'll try to jump in here for whatever my two cents are worth. Replay-AV claims to be able to record any sound that you can route through your PC whether through your soundcard via stream capture or external audio source. i don't know whether or not it can do this better than Total Recorder, but if this is primarily what you want to do you may be better off saving your money and just going with Total Recorder. it looks as though you could set up your burner configuration with Replay-AV directly, though, which may not be possible with Total Recorder. In other words, if your objective is to get material from cassettes onto your hard drive and listen from there, either program will probably allow this, so it depends how you plan to burn the tracks. Both programs allow for easy conversion to .mp3 format. In terms of the differences between them, i think the primary advantage of Replay-AV is its ability to capture multiple streams without tying up the sound card or user attention to realtime recording. It's the difference between using your computer as a single cassette deck vs. a VCR or Tivo to schedule recordings of favorite programs and essentially forget them. You can also search for ipods and add and/or quickly locate favorite radio stations or shows, a facility you do not have with Total Recorder. The best way to compare the programs, though, is to listen to the review of both and try to decide which meets your needs or to ask questions of experienced users. in addition to the Main Menu programs on Total Recorder, you might want to check out the tutorials by dean Martineau on specific aspects of this program. if you need more info on these you can write me off list. Obviously for Replay petro is the primary expert. However, there is a tutorial by Chris Judd available for purchase. i'm not sure whether he is on the list, and in fact would like to get in touch with him myself, so if Chris could write me off list and/or if anyone knows how best to reach him i'd very much appreciate it. Hope this helps.

Susan

This is a resend of my list query, which the list software didn't like.
Hope it will take this one and save Alison the trouble of having to fiddle
with what the listserv sent to its administrator with what follows buried
in there somewhere.

At some point I may unsub from this list, but it sure isn't for lack of
good information and a spirit of sharing! You see, I don't have the
program yet.

I'd just installed Total Recorder when Main Menu offered a review and
discounts from Applian. If someone wouldn't mind taking time out from
specific questions, what are your thoughts on the differences and overlaps
between the two programs? If I want to turn some cassettes into MP3's,
eventually making CD's from them, which is better?

Realizing that Replay doesn't burn CD's, and hopeing we all end up with an
audio burner that isn't buried in a video suite, I'm looking forward to
all thoughts on this. (Off-list okay as well.)
