VI Footballer Stephen's in the Hall of Fame

Finney, Gascoigne, Giggs ... and now Daley.

You may have never heard of him, but Preston footballer Stephen Daley is
heading for a place among the sport's elite.

Stephen, 31, has been given a special place in the National Football Museum's
Hall of Fame, honouring him for his role as captain of the England
partially-sighted football team.

When he's not got his boots on, Stephen is a sports development officer at
Preston Council, and will join former Sunderland hero Niall Quinn as one of two
surprise entrants alongside nine other heroes to be put in this year, including
legendary Preston North End women's player Joan Whalley, who has received a
posthumous induction in the Hall of Fame.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will officially admit Stephen to the
Hall of Fame at a ceremony next month.

Stephen said: "I learned a few months ago that I had been nominated and I was
surprised, but I thought with the calibre of people I was up against, I should
just be happy to be on the list.

"Then the FA rang and said congratulations and I could not believe it, I was
absolutely over the moon."

He will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is hosted at the
museum at Deepdale in Preston, at a special ceremony at Manchester United's Old
Trafford stadium on November 15.

The entrants to this year's Hall of Fame were chosen by a panel which included
Sir Alex Ferguson, Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Mark Lawrenson
and Gordon Taylor.
