Run a Race! Win a Prize!
Story Updated: Oct 26, 2007 at 6:35 PM EDT
Lisa Rice McGarity has been legally blind since childhood but hasn't lost a
step in pursuing her passions.
She earned a doctorate degree in chemistry, has been a teacher at Edison
College for 20 years and is a marathon runner.
"I can't see as well as everybody else," she says. "But I know where the road
is. I won't say that I've never tripped, though."
A few years ago, the Naples resident decided to do something with her love of
running and came up with the Halloween Monster Crazy 8-K Run and 2-Mile Fun
Walk. "What better way to raise money for the Foundation Fighting Blindness
than to have a road race," she says.
Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and those best attired will win
prizes. The 8-kilometer run is approximately five miles and is being held
Sunday morning (October 28th, 2007).
For more information on the race, call 239-434-9786.
