Guide Dogs' goodies on sale in Gorey
PETTITT'S SUPERVALU, Gorey, played its part in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the
Blind this week as a sale of products took place at the store.
In an effort to gather funds for the local branch of this national charity
volunteers manned the stall offering calendars, souvenirs, stationery,
Christmas Cards and more.
Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is a unique organisation in Ireland, providing
mobility training through the use of a Guide Dog, Assistance Dog and Long Cane
for adults and children from four years of age. The services, which are
provided free of charge, bring mobility and independence to people's lives from
all over Ireland.
Guide Dog Training courses and Mobility Courses (using a Long Cane) are offered
on a residential basis at our Training Centre in Cork. Instruction is mostly on
a one-to-one basis with many hours of practical training in a range of
environments until the client has reached a safe and efficient standard of
mobility.
As the demand for services continues to grow, public support is always welcome
and makes a huge difference in the lives of many.
