Enjoy an ENCHANTED afternoon November 4th (starring the Great Blindini)

By Carole Brand

ROCKLAND (Oct 29): Literacy Volunteers of Midcoast Maine presents a fun-filled
variety show of song, humor and magic for all ages to help raise funds for our
adult literacy programs. Please plan to join us on Sunday, November 4th at
2:00pm at the Strand Theatre in Rockland for this exciting and innovative
event.

Our special guest for this event is Brent Gifford, known professionally as The
Great Blindini. Brent is a professional magician who also happens to be blind.
He was born and raised in Maine but now focuses his professional activities on
the West Coast, where he is a sought-after teacher of magic and frequent
performer. If you have never seen a blind magician (assisted by his guide dog
Yankee ) you will be astounded with this performance of amazing feats of magic.
Audience participation is always anticipated with some surprising results that
creates fun for adults and kids alike.

Other participating performers include the local jazz legends All That Jazz
playing jazz standards and some new surprises. The group consists of Bill Hahn
on piano; Dave Pierce on guitar; Renny Stackpole on Bass and vocals and Hank
Lunn on percussion and vocals. We are also pleased to welcome Robert Skoglund,
the humble Farmer, who promises to keep us rolling in the aisles with stories
from his vast repertoire. The OutCAST players, a theatre troupe made up of our
learners and tutors, will also perform short, original works highlighting the
consequences of lack of literacy skills.

This event is a fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Mid-Coast Maine, a
non-profit organization that assists adult learners to improve their reading,
writing and related literacy skills. Every year we work with over 250 folks in
Knox County and surrounding areas starting from ABC's all the way to preparing
for GED exams. Being able to read bedtime stories, fill out job applications,
understand prescription and medical information, and achieve a GED enables our
learners to be better parents, neighbors, employees and community members.
Think about the new worlds, new knowledge, new interests and new friends that
your ability to read have brought to you -- and join us on November 4th. (and
yes, ...the Patriots game doesn't start until later that afternoon!!)

TICKETS ($25.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under) ARE AVAILABLE
AT THE STRAND THEATRE BOX OFFICE, 345 Main Street Rockland OR ONLINE AT
