Ark. Lighthouse for Blind Gets Contract to Make Navy T-shirts

By The Associated Press

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ The Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind is marking the start
of a new manufacturing line to make cotton T-shirts for the U.S. Navy.

The manufacturing plant, in southwest Little Rock, will make 20,000 T-shirts a
month initially. Officials hope the number will double by next spring.

Founded in 1940, the Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind creates job
opportunities for visually impaired and blind people, along with sighted
workers. The Lighthouse also makes moisture-wicking T-shirts, a nylon utility
belt and a Bandoleer pouch - all for the military.

Bill Johnson, executive director and executive vice president of Lighthouse's
board, said the new manufacturing line will initially create 10 new jobs.
