I'm glad Mary mentioned USB mics because I forgot about that.

We teach Dragon at the college where I work, and our access technology
specialist is a speech pathologist and a Dragon expert. He used to be the
main trainer for Dragon for all the access tech folks in the California
college systems. Anyway, he says that only high-quality Plantronics USB
headsets should be used with Dragon, because it makes significantly more
recognition errors with any mic, no matter how good if it's connected
through the sound card.

The good news is that these headsets cost only around $50. They're mono, but
in his opinion, the highest voice-quality mics you can get for a consumer
type computer.

I noticed that to the computer, they often appear as a wave device of "usb
speakers" but don't let that throw you.
