I think you hit the nail on the head with this idea. To make it easy to use for 
both sighted and visually impaired people, would lower the cost.

  Here is another suggestion.  I do not think this recorder should be like the 
bookport in that it has no display.  For one thing, having a display would 
greatly benefit some of our low vision friends who are on this list and else 
where.  In addition, a recorder simply marketed for people who are blind would, 
out of necessity, be more expensive because the market share would not be that 
great.  If, however, it could be operated by anyone, people who see and people 
who do not, I believe the long range sales of such a device could be predicted 
to be much greater and thus, the cost would be lower.  Yes, it may cost more to 
produce, but I can see a lot of people who see using the speech features as 
well.  So, if I were a millionaire, I would definitely produce a unit that 
could be used by everyone.  Just the good press and publicity that would result 
from an organization for the blind producing a recorder that works for everyone 
would be a good thing, not to mention it's being able to be used by everyone.
