Mary Ann, have you connected with Mobility International? They are
headquartered in Eugene and they specialize in travel and accessible travel
packages for the disabled. The phone number I have for them is

Subject: [bct] I'm Commin to New York City

Hi All,

I was introduced to the Blind Cool Tech Pod casts a few weeks ago and I have
absolutely enjoyed the topics and the fun that people seem to have in this
conglomerate of folks who all want to experience everything about

For my special birthday present, I have decided, quite spontaneously, that I
want to travel to New York City. My idea is to arrive on Friday, February 17
and leave Monday, February 20. For some of this time, I will be by myself. I
know that if I do my homework, I could make this a really great time, so I
am doing some research ahead of time before I officially book my trip. If I
don't plan this correctly, I also know that it could be a wasted trip and a
possibly disaster. But I heard a Pod cast of Lynnette walking through
Manhattan and it made me want to come even more.

can anyone on this list recommend any of the following items:

* What hotel accommodations that are outside of the city (possibly in New
Jersey) that might be less expensive?
* Any guided tours that would have people that could hang with me during the
tour as a sighted guide?
* Any tips for a blind person who is traveling in New York City alone would
make the most of the experience?
* Ways of getting to and from places (shuttles, lifts, guides) such as from
airports to hotels, theater, just even to walk around the city.
* Travel agencies that might have a really neat handle on helping a person
who is blind to pick out a travel package? I am in Portland Oregon.
* Anything else to consider that I have not?

I really want to experience all that I can. I will have a friend visiting on
Saturday the 18, but the Friday, Sunday, and the day time part of Monday, it
is up to me to be sure I get the most out of my trip.

Any insight would be absolutely splendid and I would truly appreciate any

And also, after hearing Dan making and drinking espresso in his Pod cast, I
now want to buy an espresso machine. Heh.

Thanks again,
Mary Ann
