Hi This is Ken,
The standard way of producing heat is by aplying current through a resistance.
Induction heating uses a alternating magnetic field , that causes edy currents in a pot made of iren , steel or some kind of magnetic material.

Hmmm. The idea seems cool! What is the difference of induction heating versus what regular stoves in the states use? Also, how would you turn a 110 volt outlet into a 200 volt one? You'd even have a problem with 220, 20 volts of extra power means extra heat, fried electronics, not good. I think overseas, they use 50 hertz for the AC frequency instead of 60 like here. How feasible would it be to get an electrician to get one of these going in your house if a person ordered it?

Cooktop with Voice Navigation, Sweet!
Popgadget has the skinny today on a Sanyo Electric cooking stove withornavigation and musical tones to alert you when burners have heated up to a certain temperature. What a great idea for VI (visually impaired) chefshttp://blindprogramming.com/mailman/listinfo/blindnews_blindprogramming.comgimpy cooks like me who need to go have a lie down while waiting for that water to boil.
Another great piece of Gimp Gear for the kitchen!
Sanyo Electric is to release in Japan the wildest appliance I've ever read about: their new induction heat-type cooking stove features a "voice navigation" function to make it easier to use.
The 200V Built-In IH Cooking Heater emits various musical tones when, for example, cooking is completed or water is boiled. The music can be downloaded from the internet via mobile phone and transmitted to the cooking unit via infrared communications.
The device also offers oral instructions for novice cooks.
