I'm with Jay Garcia on this one. A few years ago, the speaktome catalogue web site did a talent show where people could submit mp3 files of them singing different songs. Those songs were publicly available for download as well as for listening for voting in the contest, and I can guarantee you people did works that were originally done by other artists. I wasn't sued for my performance of a song, and I'm pretty sure no one was either. I'm not saying totally disregard copyright law. All I'm saying is that the extreme fear people seem to be feeling is unnecessary. And that sease and desist thing is true. That's what usually happens in just about any case I've read about if someone believed to be breaking copyright law is investigated. And that's just a warning..No jail time..No law suits. And I've yet to be attacked by a lawyer at a karaoke event for singing copyrighted material.
