I use to use one of these about 20 years ago when working in radio.
You would be amazed at the number of times I've seen people using them
incorrectly. Many people, when placing the microphone in the parabolic
dish make the error of pointing the microphone outwards. However, the
objective of a parabolic microphone is that the parabolic dish
collects the sound wave and redirects it to a focus point near the
center of the dish. So, with a parabolic microphone, you are supposed
to attach the microphone so that its pickup is pointing into the dish,
rather than out of it.
