Beth, I know a lot of people who text message because they may be at
work or in a meeting and need to send something to people.  They can't
very well pick up their phone and talk, so they send a text message.
Yes, it's slow, but if you do it enough, I guess you get the hang of it.

As far as I know, you can change your number and yes, the 22C does text
messaging.  Just for my curiosity:  Why text message--on any
phone--rather than leave a voice mail?  Texting is so laborious and
inefficient--what's the point?  Maybe there are phrases you can text by
a shortcut key but still ... I'm puzzled.  Beth
