It could save someone having to answer their phone if they are in a meeting.
They can simply receive an alert that they have a message waiting.

As far as I know, you can change your number and yes, the 22C does text
messaging.  Just for my curiosity:  Why text message--on any phone--rather
than leave a voice mail?  Texting is so laborious and inefficient--what's
the point?  Maybe there are phrases you can text by a shortcut key but still
... I'm puzzled.  Beth
