Here's an adventure, spy story for Progressives, which is on BARD. The God's
Eye View by Barry Weisler DB85442. I first came across this author several
years ago when I was still reading books from Audible and getting a weekly
promotional magazine from them. There was an interview with Barry Eisler and
I read one of his books. Then, several months ago, he was on Democracy Now,
talking about this book and I looked for it on Bookshare, but never found
it. I was surprised to find it on BARD a few weeks ago. It was really
amazing to start reading this book and find some of my favorite people,
folks I've gotten to know from the internet like Glen Greenwald and Edward
Snowden, mentioned as part of a spy story. The Intercept, some of its
reporters, Marcie Wheeler, all mentioned as dangerous radicals by the
fictional director of the NSA in the book, reminded me that, that's really
how most of the country probably views them. The books author, Barry Eisler,
has been in the NSA. I gather from the short description in the introduction
that he's now working for peace and justice. The book is entertainment, but
it's a reminder that our government is ruthless and people who are in
opposition to it, sometimes die in very suspiscious ways. I never will
forget Michael Hastings who was working on a big news story that had to do
with national security and who died in a very strange auto accident. Had he
lived, he would most likely have ended up working for The Intercept.
