Hello,

This is a forced mate in 5 moves. White starts by forcing the King off the
eighth rank with Qd8. Black's only available square is g7. At this point, the
White Bishop on c2 covers all the white squares around the Black King, g6 and
h7, and the White Queen on d8 covers the eighth rank as well as the f6 square.
Now White sacrifices his Rook to allow the h5 pawn into the picture with Rxg5,
check. With all the squares covered by the Queen and bishop, this forces hxg5,
which allows White to push h6, check. The only available move is to capture, so
Black plays Kxh6, and now White sweeps over with Qh8 check, and the only move
for Black is to temporarily block with his Rook, Rh7. White mates with Qxh7
and Black is smothered by his lonely pawn on g5.

Great puzzle!

Jeffrey
