Thanks for taking it so good Kim.

I really think you will enjoy the discussions on the bookshare list much
better. For example, we have a discussion going on over there right now about
the worst book you've ever read. Most of us on this list belong to both groups
and interact with both groups pretty easily. Though that does mean a lot of
email.

Most of the discussion with this group is about preparing books for the
bookshare collection, though occasionally we get out of line. We discuss which
books people want, which books are being scanned, best methods for scanning,
and how to proofread a book for the collection.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Bob. I'm definitely interested in talking about the bookshare collection,
what stuff I've downloaded, what I'd like to see in the collection. I really
didn't wish the volunteer list member list to be mad at me, although I am
interested in what's being scanned and proofread on general principle. I'm very
glad someone told me about Bookshare and I'm very pleased to have joined. So if
you folks talk about books, this is definitely for me. Let me know if I've
grasped the breadth of what is discussed here. Thanks a lot for letting me
know. I look forward to corresponding with people. Regards, Kim Friedman.

  Hi Kim.
This is taken from the bookshare site under membership:

. Join the Members discussion and meet other Bookshare Members. This
discussion group is often your best source for good hands-on information.
Members share
tips about using Bookshare, discuss books they are reading, and talk about
print access topics such as scanning or reading technology or just about
anything
else they think would be of interest to other Members. This is a very active
list. Once you have subscribed, you may want to change your settings to "digest
form" (see below) which typically means one email a day containing all of the
emails sent to the list that day.
list of 2 items nesting level 1
. Subscribe: Send a blank email with "subscribe" in the subject line to:
  bookshare-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
. Digest Form (one email per day): Once you have subscribed, send a blank
email with "set digest" in the subject to:
  bookshare-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you have problems, ask and I'm sure someone on this list can help.

    Hi Kim,

I'd go to the freelists web site and search for "bookshare-discuss" as
a list name without the quotes. Once you find it, I'm sure you'll be able to
find directions for how to subscribe. I'm certain it's very similar to
whatever you did to subscribe to this list. I don't remember exactly how to do
it, or I'd just give you instructions. Perhaps someone else on the list
remembers.

    Good luck!

    Mayrie

    Hi Kim,

I notice that a lot of your messages are off topic. You might have
more fun with this if you were to join the bookshare-discuss list. It's more
about books in general and not designed to be specifically for
volunteering-related subjects.

Hi, gang, Kim here. You've just provided me with more ammunition to
inveigle people to join Bookshare. I solemnly swear to see what I can do here.
I say this because I know some folks who play virtual games of chess. Check out
for-the-people.com and see what I mean. There are people there who play chess,
golf, poker, etc. Think of what could happen should some of those people join!
Will we be inundated with books on various card games and golf? What's a poor
non-sports/games player to do? Any plans to do something regarding where one
can find role-playing games and how to play them? Regards, Kim aka Ellinder.

    Hi Jamie,

Maybe they will be encouraged when they see that the book got into the
collection and do more chess books.

Great, thanks! The submitter sounded like he or she (I can't remember who
it was and did not recognize the name) really did a lot of work on the book.
That's the only reason I decided to give it a try and see if it needed any
final touches.
