I thought it was okay just to put the stuff from the back cover of the book as the synopsis? Is that okay? ----- Original Message ----- From: "EVAN REESE" <mentat3@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Hmmm, I just read around half a dozen definitions of "synopsis" on Google, and none of them mention that they should contain the title or author of the book. Besides, since the title and author are usually in close proximity, see any Bookshare or NLS book, for example, that information in the synopsis is redundant.Another besides, having only 50 words for a Bookshare short synopsis, putting the title and author in there, takes away from an already small space in which to tell people what the book is about.Evan----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann Parsons" <akp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 7:21 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: synopsisHi all,Well, if writing a synopsis, look up word in the dictionary, you would want to write something fairly short, one to three paragraphs for a long synopsis. A synopsis should contain the title, author, of a book. It should contain the book's main theme. Then, it should contain a few sentences about how the author illustrates the theme. That's pretty much it.BTW, in case it's been a while since you talked about themes in a classroom, the theme of a book is the reason why the book was written, it's major point. Some themes are standard: man against nature, man against man, growing up, a quest, etc. It's really the main reason behind the book. Even nonfiction titles have themes: a book about Italian cooking, a book about economics in the 19th century, etc.Ann P. -- AAnn K.
