[bksvol-discuss] Re: suggestion for people who are frustrated by validation process

Dear Robin,

I've collected my books and have resumed work. Some glitches which appeared in one of them after my, "windows upgrade," do not seem to be troubling me in the others. It's time to let the problem go, even though it will result in a small imperfection in my validation and move forward.

When I wash dishes and then dry them and notice a bit of grime clinging to a spoon, I wash it again and feel satisfied when the dishes are done. When a cement clad set of words refused to move in a book I'd validated with no problems before the crash, I was immobilized with the perfectionists frustration.

My conclusion is, at last, that the very charming and informative contents of this adorable book will impress bookshare readers far more than 3 lines of text not properly lined up in the left margin. And, if I bury myself in the fabulous books I especially bought and donated to bookshare for the pleasure of validating them, maybe I can forget that pebble in my shoe that stopped my production for far too long.

I didn't pick up any titles I hadn't purchased for scanning in the first place, and none but the Shamrocks book were in any kind of demand though I hope they will be enjoyed by others when they are approved.

Back to Work.

Always with love,

Lissi

Lissi,

There are a bunch of books waiting for you on the step 1 list. Shall we leave them until you're ready?

Dear Robin,

Robin and others,, Given that scanning, validating and having books approved can be complicated and frustrating, I admire you for inserting your approach to staying engaged ;with the system in a positive way.

After all there are over 26 thousand books in the collection. There is much more about the system that works than doesn't work. I'm trying to claw myself out of a slump, but I think of it as my slump, and not caused by Bookshare. When I'm able to contribute again, I'm counting on Bookshare to accept my work, and on this list for fine tuning my efforts when I'm off track.

While I've been down and out, in a technical sense, the reports of the wonderful work many of you are doing have come as a steady stream of good news.

I hope to be adding my contributions again soon.

Always with love,

Lissi

HI All,

I"m hearing a lot of discouragement about the validation process--duplication of efforts and delayed gratification of rewards (having the book appear in the collection).

One thing I really enjoy doing and which I feel is a benefit is to scout out the books which have been on the download list for a long time--six months or more. They appear, usually, in the middle of and towards tht eend of the list on the step 1 page. Even though I have had to reject some of these books, it still appeals to my sense of tidyness to clean up the list thusly.

Just a thought....
