Hi Julia,

Yes, it has misspellings due to scanning issues that need to be cleaned up as much as possible. It appears that most of them are places where 2 words are joined together so that they are missing the space between them.

Thanks.

Hi, do you really need to spellcheck it at all? I've never validated a book, but if you've already validated it does it still need a spellcheck?

Hi Cindy,

I am done with the validating except for the spell checking. This is my problem. I can't finish it.

Thanks.

Dan,

The one thing you do not mention trying is validating
without the spell-checked running in the background. I
guess I didn't make my points clear enough, or I
wasn't convincing enough.

If you're willing to try once again, please try
turning off the spell-check when you validate. Don't
worry about misspelled words, which are probably names
of people and places. If that speeds things up and
makes validating more pleasurable for you, when you
have finished validating, save the file as rtf and
close. Then open the rtf file and run a spellcheck.
When it gives you a word, and you check it and it's
spelled correctly, click ignore all.

With a large book the spellcheck will take a little
time, but it will go faster as more and more words are
ignored.

Cindy

Ok all,

This book is called "A World At Arms A GLOBAL
HISTORY OF World War II".

I am giving up. My system just won't handle this
one. I have tried all
your ideas like splitting the file, starting the
spell checker when I start
the file, etc. As soon as I start the spell checkre
 and my system comes to
a crawl and stays that way for hours. And that is
without doing anything
but letting it do the spell checking in the
background.

I am going to release the book and let someone else
try it. Whomever takes
it can send me an email and I'll send them the file
I have. I have spent
hours on cleaning headers, fixing pagenation and a
few other things.

Thanks.
