Hi Jackie.
Firstly, I want to say it was extremely rude to bring up my hair color in
a
message. *stupid grin*
Actually, that was well said, and I totally agree with you.
Personally, I have no problem reading books with "adult" material in it,
as
long as it is done well. For example, James Joyce's Ulysses. I thought
that
I would probably never rate a book adult, but fairly recently I proofed
one
of those romances that got pretty steamy, and I felt in good conscience
that
I had to rate it adult. But I may never press the adult button again. In
other words, there is lots of gray in my book preferences.
I think the same thing is true concerning how we treat each other on this
list. For the most part, everyone treats their fellow list members with
respect, I think. But, sometimes in the heat of battle, we say things we
regret right after the send button is pushed. Sometimes, in the anonymity
of
email, we act pretty childish, I don't know why, but some really nice
people
in person become real tigers while driving their keyboard across the
internet. But I think as long as we show each other mutual respect, the
battles won't leave any lasting scars. At least I hope not.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] shades of grey
U know, all, I think a major problem here is that the discussions on
both the adult & rudeness thread revolves around shades of gray.
Obviously, if a book is available in an adult bookstore, it's adult.
Clearly, if some1 calls some1 else a stupid so-&-so, they're rude.
From there on, however, things begin to get grey, & what seems rude to
1 person may not seem at all rude to another & what appears to be
adult content to 1 may not seem so to another.
Perhaps understanding that most of the time we're dealing in grey
areas might help folks tone down responses just a bit & also might
help folks to give a little info as to why they rated a particular
book adult or no. Just a piece of my mind, which, arguably, I can't
afford to give, but...
