If you are looking for a flatbed option, the Opticbook 3600 appears to be a
very popular scanner. Reportedly, it has a 4 second full page scan mode.
It is also a book-edge scanner.

Hi Carlos, Have you considered chopping the spines from books and using a
canon 2550. It scans both sides of the page simultaneously with speeds up to
25 or so sheets per minute.
