Elizabeth, You don't lose Page Breaks when converting from HTML to RTF because there are no Page Breaks in the HTML file. That's why Bookshare no longer accepts HTML files for submissions. HTML files can not meet the Page Break policy since they do not support Page Breaks. K-1000 can produce RTF files with Page Breaks from DAISY books because after it converts the XML file--which is essentially the same as the HTML file--to RTF, it looks up where they need to be and adds them back in. The information about where they go is stored in the NCX file by the Stripper when it processes the RTF file during Validation. The processing of the Page Breaks and page numbers by the Stripper not only prevents the info from being lost when the XML file is created during validation, but helps DAISY readers provide the capability to jump to a specific page in DAISY books.
