Hi Kaitlyn,
DAISY players are not just hardware devices. Daisy players are made for
the PC as well. Having BookShare create anything other than specialized
formats would be a violation of the Chafey amendment, so don't count on it
happening. DAISY and BRF are the two electronic formats that I know of that
are considered specialized.
Does this mean I think an unstripped version of the books shouldn't be
included or available? No, but it will have to be in DAISY or BRF format.
Jake

HI,
Yes, Daisy player? Why would I want one when I can get a full blow laptop at
about 3 LBS. Even looking at most people on this list how many really use a
Daisy player? From what I have observed we use computers, Word, Kurzweil,
Pack mates, Braille notes, etc. with all of these a straight RTF file will
work with all of these.
It reminds me of my days at the end at AOL. I was to support WAV files when
the majority of people were using MP3.
I think it is time we speak up loudly for what we want and use.

And what does this all mean for those who happen to read books in ways other than this perfect Daisy player for which the stripper is optimized? Little wonder that so many books are ruined by the stripper and rendered far less usefull than they would otherwise be. Given the nature of how bookshare books are received, attempting to strip them the way the stripper works is a recipe for disaster. Also, given that many of us do not even use a Daisy player to read the books, the end result is even more predictable.
