I don't have any solutions for you, but I will say that this is precisely why I chose to continue with Openbook after trying K1000 out. It's inexplicable, and quite frustrating.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] problem getting good scans

Hi gang,

It seems that no matter what settings I have on k1000 it scans perfectly for maybe ten or more pages, and then all of a sudden it starts to mess up by dropping words or part of words and in general not a good scan at all. Could it be the scanner? I wouldn't think so but it sure is baffling. I'm using the latest Kurzweil version and an Epson 4490 scanner. The thing that seems so strange is that it does a number of pages perfectly and then all of a sudden starts messing up without me changing anything. Any ideas? It really slows down my scanning of a book having to go back and fix things or rescanning some pages.
Thanks for any thoughts.
