I have a friend who told me of signing up with BookShare because of its sf and fantasy. Eagerly waiting to read books in the collection, my friend downloaded several titles only to find them rendered unenjoyable because of gibberish and scanno static. I would hate to think that there might become a two-track system with school-oriented texts being excellent and the rest hit or miss.

If you have six or seven pages out of 80 with truncated words, please think very hard about rejecting the book. Particularly think of rejecting the book if the book submitter has a lot of books on step 1 with poor ratings. I personally am tired of the few, and I mean very very few, submitters who do not consider the validator when submitting. Apparently anything they submit ought to be gone over by some poor validator to fix the truncated words, numerous scanos and lack of spell checking which the poor submitter just does not have the time and inclination to fix.

Surely bookshare as an organization needs to deal with these book submits in a different way from the carefully created work of submitters who truly care.

I have suggested to Claire that books with less than excellent ratings be put on the bottom of step 1 to discourage new validators from working on them and to encourage those whith poor submit histories to improve the quality of work.
