Thanks for your reply and perhaps you or someone else can answer this one as 
well. The book I validated did need special work and the scanner knew it. She 
rated it as good. During the upload process, Bookshare had it rated excellent. 
At which point did they do their spell check; was it after I had uploaded the 
book?
