Hi,

OK, I got it straight now. That's the way I had been doing it most of the time but one reader said there should be no blank line between page number and text. Should there be a blank line between chapter title and text or should it be right against the text so the awful header machine won't gobblwe it up?
Oh what fun.

Hi Bud,

Grace is correct in her message below. It does go page break, blank line, page number, blank line, text. Sorry if you were confused. I imagine it can sound complicated. But if you do happen to forget this pattern it's okay. This is a preferred method for page numbers, but not required. I don't believe the manual specifically says one has to do it.

HTH,

Allison

Hi Bud:

It goes
page break, blank line, page number, blank line, and text.

If the numbers are at the bottom
it goes: text, blank line, page number, blank line, page break.

Hi,

I'm confused again. I thought there was not supposed to be a blank line betweenn page number and text. There seems to be several grey areas about conformity that I wish could be cleared up for us scanners. It seems like in some areas there is no specific rules as to how things should be, like blank lines before and or after page numbers or before and or after chapter headings. When I scan a book before I send it in for validating I convert it to rtf format, do rank spelling and keep changing back and forth about blank lines before and after depending on what the last thing is I have been told. Do I sound confused? I think a lot of us scanners aren't clear on some of these issues.
Thanks for putting up with this confused scanner

Here is a tip for adding blank lines before page numbers. You can add a
blank before and after a page break in MS Word by going to the "find and
replace" box using alt h. Then in the find box type ^m. In the replace box
type ^p^m^p. Then tab until you hear the "replace all" button and press
space or enter. This will put a blank line both before and after a page
break. It won't put a blank line between the page number and the text, one
has to do that by hand. Even so, I've found that the above technique saves
me a little bit of time while validating.

BTW, before anyone claims that I'm brilliant, I got this idea from Jamie Y at one point. I'm afraid I can't take credit for it. *smile*.

Best,

Allison
