It's called fillo dough, and my grandmother taught me how to make it. smile. It's a huge amount of work, so I would buy it too nowadays - you can get it in the frozen foods section of most stores. Very yummy to use in all kinds of recipes!
I would love a recipe book that has eastern european cooking - has anyone found something like this on bookshare?

Yes, Ann, you spelled it right, as far as I know. Fortunately, when I made it, the thin sheets--I forget what they're called--were available and I didn't have to roll out the dough. Even with that it was a sticky and delicate job, separating the sheets and spreading them and layering them. The result was excellent, though, and I was proud of myself. Now I neither cook nor bake--I've retired from the kitchen. smile G.Cindy --- Ann Parsons <akp@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Hi all,There is a family legend which I cannot corroberate which tells of my grandmother making Baklava (sp) from scratch and rolling out the pastry on the dining room table. By the time I came on the scene, she'd quit doing those amazing things, but she spent hours in the kitchen making the most delicious stuff. She was truly amazing and very, particular about everything she cooked. She even washed ricebefore she cooked it. Ann P. -- Ann K.
