Lissi,
You probably pressed Ctrl-*, which is Ctrl-Shift-8. That toggles displaying
of those characters on and off.

Dear Pratik,
My sanity is restored and I thank you for that! In the options box I
unchecked everything as you instructed and my files are back to their pure
states!
BTW
When I was trying to solve the problem myself, I visited that box and was
overwhelmed with all of those checked and unchecked items because I didn't
know what most of them indicated so wasn't sure what to change. Oddly
enough, the paragraph marker box was not checked but believe me, Jaws said
paragraph mark for every paragraph, along with a million other
announcements. How I created such a hornet's nest while trying to type e
umlaut will probably remain one of life's mysteries.
Thank you again for helping me get back to validating.
Always with love,
Lissi

Lissi,
In Microsoft Word, go to Tools (alt+t), options (o), then to the view tab
(CTRL+tab). Uncheck every option in this dialog. You should be fine.
HTH.

Dear Volunteer Friends,
I've gone and done it. I'm not sure what I did, but after working at putting
umlauts above letters, all of the files in Microsoft word, including my RTF
files for validating were infested with markers! Jaws says space marker for
every space and paragraph marker and the screen has something like big dark
dots sprinkled everywhere.
Can anyone guess what function I inadvertently turned on and how I can turn
it off? The racket is crazy making.
Always with love,
Lissi

Laura Ann,
Cindy is talking about there being two e-mail lists to join. The other is
bookshare-discuss which is for general topics related to Bookshare.

I try to keep the lists updated on my hard drive but
only can make changes based on what the relatively
small percentage of people on this list post that
they've submitted or finished validating--or have
received notices that theyr book has been accepted.
