Hi Gerald, What is so unusual about this whole thingis that it just started
and I haven't changed any of my settings. I will look into this fast save
thing though and let all know of the results. Thanks a bunch Tom

If there's a glitch with fast saves, then this could explain Tom's problem.
The book Word Annoyances from O'Reilly contains an explanation of fast save,
its disadvantages, and how to turn it off. It's in a section titled "Save
Your Documents The Best Way". The book Word 2000 in a Nutshell which is
also from O'Reilly contains information about fast saves in section 3.2.5.
Both books are in the collection. You may also want to download Word 2003
Personal Trainer if you have Word 2003.
The bottom line is that fast saves speed up saving a file by recording your
changes to the bottom of the file rather than actually making the change to
the file. This allows the information to be appended to the bottom of the
file rather than rewriting the file, which saves time. According to the
books, the files are rewritten every 15th save to prevent the files from
getting too large. It's not clear though whether or not this is applicable
to RTF files, or just DOC files.
If you are having trouble uploading a book you've validated using Word or
if you think your RTF file looks too large when you're ready to upload, you
might want to try turning fast saves off to see if it makes a difference.
If you determine that it does, then please let the list know.
HTH
Gerald

Hi, Tom. Just on a hunch, do you have fast save turned on in Word? I dimly remember reading about a glitch with fast save. I'm not a power user of Word, so this is just a thought on my part. I wish I'd bookmarked the article I read. It has something to do with how Word makes copies of a document for saving. Do you use the Woodys Office Watch site? I think it might have been there, and someone on that forum might have a better answer for you.
